What Is NeuroStar TMS?

NeuroStar is an FDA-cleared, non-drug treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain linked to mood regulation. It’s a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that doesn’t involve medication, sedation, or surgery. Sessions take place right in our office, and most patients return to their normal routine immediately afterward.
NeuroStar has been used in over 9 million treatments across more than 250,000 patients, backed by decades of clinical research on its safety and effectiveness.

How NeuroStar Is Different From Medication

Antidepressant medications work throughout your entire body, which is part of why they can cause side effects like weight changes, fatigue, or sexual dysfunction. NeuroStar takes a different approach. It targets the specific brain regions involved in depression directly, without circulating through your bloodstream or affecting other organs. For patients who’ve tried multiple medications without success, or who can’t tolerate the side effects of antidepressants, this targeted approach can be a meaningful alternative.

What Treatment Involves

A typical course of NeuroStar includes 36 sessions, delivered five days a week over about six weeks. Each session lasts as little as 19 minutes. There’s no downtime between sessions. You can drive yourself to and from appointments and return directly to work or your normal activities.

The most common side effect is mild scalp discomfort or headache near the treatment site, which tends to ease after the first week or so.

Why Patients Choose NeuroStar

  • No systemic side effects like those associated with medication
  • No sedation, anesthesia, or recovery time required
  • Backed by strong real-world outcomes, with a majority of patients experiencing meaningful symptom relief
  • Covered by most major insurance plans, including Medicare
  • A non-invasive option for patients who haven’t responded to standard treatments
